Vanina García, SLP, Head of Speech-Language Pathology at Santa Catalina, presented at national scientific conferences on aphasiology and language assessment in adult neurological patients.

Vanina García, SLP, Head of the Speech-Language Pathology Department, presented at two leading national scientific conferences in the field.
During May, the month in which Argentina celebrates Speech-Language Pathologist Day, Vanina García, SLP, represented Santa Catalina at two nationally recognized scientific conferences, contributing the institution’s clinical perspective to specialized discussions on aphasiology and language assessment in adult neurological patients.
Hosted by FASTA University in Mar del Plata, the First Argentine Conference on Aphasiology: Rethinking Assessment and Clinical Practice in Speech-Language Pathology brought together leading specialists from across the country. Vanina García, SLP, was invited as one of the expert speakers.
Her presentation, “Aphasia in Action: Real-World Strategies for Clinical Practice,” showcased the therapeutic approach developed at Santa Catalina: the network’s proprietary assessment protocols, its methodology for communicating patient progress across interdisciplinary teams, and the integration of families throughout the rehabilitation process. The presentation featured practical clinical cases drawn from everyday practice and also introduced attendees to Santa Catalina’s network of facilities and the high volume of neurological patients treated across its centers.

ALPI hosted its 3rd Scientific Conference, titled Speech-Language Pathology in the Adult Neurological Patient, with the goal of promoting interdisciplinary exchange and updating current clinical practices in neurological rehabilitation. The event brought together professionals from neurorehabilitation centers across Argentina.
Representing Santa Catalina, Vanina García, SLP, participated in the roundtable discussion “Between the Ideal and the Possible: Language Assessment in Real-World Clinical Practice.”
The discussion focused on the limited availability of language assessment tools validated for Rioplatense Spanish, the challenges of implementing standardized assessments in routine clinical settings, and the complexity of the patient population treated across Santa Catalina’s network, where clinical conditions frequently make ideal assessment procedures difficult to achieve.
The panel underscored the importance of strengthening professional collaboration and creating opportunities for developing more ecologically valid assessment batteries—tools that are faster to administer, better adapted to the adult neurological population, and inclusive of younger patients, while recognizing that language is dynamic and continually evolves according to sociocultural and generational contexts.
These two scientific presentations reaffirm Santa Catalina’s commitment to advancing knowledge through collaboration in the field of neurorehabilitation and to strengthening the role of its professionals as active contributors and recognized leaders within Argentina’s scientific community.
More than 35 years of experience in rehabilitation of young and adult patients with traumatological, neurological and post-surgery pathologies.
